Ooo... teh shinies. 8o My sister's new laptop has Vista on it and it seems to work fine in general. I think once you turn off that stupid Windows Defender garbage that flings all the annoying security warnings at you, it more or less acts like XP. :\

Yeah. Also, it seems as if everything is in a different place. At least it can run my games pretty well. I don't like the touchpad. I never did like them. However, I need to get another mouse for my desktop as the right button on the wireless is broken. I also need another mouse pad. Laser is not very good on glass desktops. >.>

I got to take my new toy to work last night. They are impressed. My one co-worker just shakes her head. Masa and all her electronic toys. Lulz!

Nice set up! Seems comps now don't let ya choose anymore when it comes to Vista... or they'll give Vista with an optional downgrader to XP :p

(either that or a camera...)

Nice investment, Masa! :thumb:

Microsoft has quit distributing XP, most likely to force convert people to Vista. I recommend going Ubuntu instead...

You can get Ubuntu if you had no choice but to get a new computer, yeah. In my case, I'm attempting to hang onto my current computer long enough to just skip Vista entirely and go directly to the next release of Windows, which is an entirely new build instead of a wonky patch job like Vista. St00pid Microcrap.

You've got it backward. Vista was a totally new build. New kernel, new everything. Windows 7 is going to basically be an improved Vista. It has the same kernel and back end, basically just a new front end on it. I've messed with it some.

I was tempted to use Ubuntu last
year, but never motioned th-

I coulda sworn Vista was them fooking with XP a lot. Well, whatever. Now that I think about it, it'd probably actually be better to have the next Windows be a reworking of Vista, because it means they'll have been able to spend the time fixing the major issues instead of building the kernel from scratch.

As for Ubuntu, I'll only consider it if it'll run the MMO I'm currently playing. Otherwise forget it. I'm too lazy to deal with setting up dual boot just for that. :\

Stubborn Microsoft.

I was going to harass the salesman about XP, but I knew that I probably wouldn't get it or they didn't have it (since MS want's people to use Vista.) Vista isn't getting anywhere near my desktop. That one will stay XP. I have also taken it offline. I mainly have it for the Sims and other bloated games/programs that I don't want to hog the laptop up.

Congrats on the new laptop, but beware, for I have proof now that "Vista doesn't play well with others," as the saying goes. My dad's gonna bring me the new printer I had to buy this weekend, since the old one, while still fully functional, refuses to work with Vista, no matter what drivers I try and download. I don't know if I'm more annoyed with Vista, or with Konica Minolta for not having an updated driver. :o

Nah, it's Konica Minolta's fault. It shouldn't be all that difficult to come up with a 64-bit Vista driver, yet they don't have one for no apparent reason. Simply put, they phail at life, so there's no point in ever buying their crap in the future. :o Well, wadevar. You can give me back your current printer, anyway. It was originally mine in the first place.
