How big a fan are you? Post a little history of your favorite bands
Many who know me online would be surprised to learn that one of my favorite bands isn't metal at all. it's none other then Pink Floyd. "Floyd" probably ranks higher then Dio as a favorite. if I was to do a top 3 favorites, it would probably be:
1: Lynyrd Skynyrd
2: Pink Floyd
3: Dio
Starting in 1964, the band that would become Pink Floyd underwent various line-up and name changes such as "The Abdabs", "The Screaming Abdabs", "Sigma 6" and "The Meggadeaths". In 1965, Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett joined them as "The Tea Set", and when they found themselves playing a concert with a band of the same name, Barrett came up with the name "The Pink Floyd Sound" (later "The Pink Floyd"). He devised the name "Pink Floyd" by juxtaposing the first names of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council whom he had read about in a sleeve note by Paul Oliver for a 1962 Blind Boy Fuller LP.
However, as the band began to attract a large fanbase, the pressures on Barrett contributed to his experiencing increasing psychiatric illness. Barrett asked school friend David Gilmour to join as second guitarist to take pressures off Barrett.
Barrett's behaviour became increasingly unpredictable, partly as a consequence of frequent experimentation with psychedelic drugs such as LSD. Many report having seen him on stage with the group, strumming on one chord through the entire concert, or not playing at all. At a show at The Fillmore West in San Francisco, during a performance of "Interstellar Overdrive", Barrett slowly detuned his guitar. The audience seemed to enjoy such antics, unaware of the rest of the band's consternation. In March 1968 it was officially announced that he was no longer a member of Pink Floyd.
Singer and bass player Roger Waters gradually became the dominant and driving force in the mid-1970s, until his eventual departure from the group in 1985. The band recorded several albums, achieving worldwide success with The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Wall (1979). In 1985, Waters declared Pink Floyd defunct, but the remaining members, led by Gilmour, sued Waters for rights to the name; they continued recording and touring as Pink Floyd and enjoyed commercial success with A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994), eventually reaching a settlement with Waters over the use of the name.
Waters performed with the band for the first time in 24 years on July 2, 2005 at the London Live 8 concert, playing to Pink Floyd's largest audience ever.

Re: Your Favorite bands/artists
In today's music, my favourite band are the Manic Street Preachers. They are an Alternative Rock group from Wales who have been churning out hits since 1991. They are almost unknown in North America, but they still hold a massive fan base in the UK
Their version of the Theme From M*A*S*H (which was a hit for them in 1992) was pure genius.

I'm a huge Queensrÿche fan. They have a new CD coming March 31st but some tracks have been streamed over the internet. The cd is called American Soldier, another concept CD but this is much different then anything I would imagine they would do.The lead singer interviewed Soldiers from WWII through the Iraq wars and put their thoughts in songs. So this is basically how the soldiers who fight for our freedom feel.
Anyways, this song was really a very touching song. Its called Home Again. Its a big download but well worth it.The lead singer and his 10 year old daughter do a duet on this song.

You thought you'd get away, but Karma made its move
The bad things that you've done, will be coming back for you
It's really sad that we're at the end, but my heart won't let me feel
No sympathy or pain for the outcome you've ensued...Queensrÿche 2013
