Usually Wal-Mart brand clumping kind. But sometimes if we're not near a Wal-Mart, we'll pick up whatever is handy. Tidy Cat multiple cat or something that comes with a yellow label (forgot what brand)

I use a natural wheat-based kind called Swheat Scoop, in the multi-cat variety. It clumps and kills odors decently well and doesn't produce the clay dust that normal types of litter tend to produce. I'd say I'm generally happy with it, I guess.

When Holly was alive, we used Fresh Step Clay litter. I used to hate cleaning her box, mostly b/c it would make me sneeze uncontrollably. At least the litter worked and there was very little smell.
