Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
I was wondering if somebody was gonna do a combined batch torrent of Guin eventually, using AniYoshi's subs for the first 8 or so eps and my subs for the rest. Guess I was right. That's fine with me, it saves me the trouble of doing it. I was too lazy, anyway.
Tonikaku, that's an interesting combination of old and new stuff you just listed right there. The only ones of those I've seen are Nodame, which I already recommended, and Puni Puni Poemi, which is pretty much as random as Excel Saga, only with a different main char (who exercises creative use of fish
). I guess I'd say it's worth seeing, yeah. They're airing a third and I think final season of Nodame next month, btw, which is one of the few things I'm likely gonna watch from this upcoming season of meh.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
For me it'll be So Ra No Wo To (K-On! Joins the Army) and Idiots, Tests and Summoned Creatures (because in the trailer there was a Puzzle Fighter-esque scene that warrants further investigation... also the whole F-class thing reminded me subtly of Read or Die though I'm sure it's nothing similar).
So having a bunch of extra watching material should come in handy.
I watched the first ep of Natsu no Sora (I watched the first season of Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto some time ago) and I have to say the art was absolutely astounding. Though it's entirely possible that I simply didn't notice it during the first season due to watching it on my MP3 player at 320x240 lol.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Yeah, I noticed the Puzzle Fighter parody in Shoukanjuu, too.
I initially thought the show would just be plain old generic ecchi comedy, but after watching the trailer, I have some vague hope that it won't take itself seriously at all and be looney enough to serve as decent light fluff entertainment. Then again, I kinda had the same hope for Nyan Koi this past season, but it devolved mostly into standard-issue harem comedy after a few eps. I finished it regardless, but it never lived up to its potential. Oh well.
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Yeah, it's a tossup, but there really isn't anything standout to watch, so it's worth a crack. I never watched past the first ep of Nyan Koi.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Nyan Koi could have been decent if it'd stuck to looney comedy focused around the concept of the cat-allergic dude being forced to help cats out of zany situations. It only did that for like three eps though, and then sank back into more typical harem comedy, albeit a tad better than the average harem show. Guess I can't say that really surprises me; I sorted figured this would happen from the start.
ANN linked to a new trailer for Katanagatari, btw: http://www.katanagatari.com/special/pv_01.html The music is funky and cool, so I looked up who's covering that for this show, and found that it's being done by Iwasaki Taku. That's the same guy who did the music for Gurren Lagann, Witch Hunter Robin and the Kenshin OVAs, among other things. The guy is really good.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
To be honest, I found neither the existing cat humour aspect nor the obviously upcoming harem aspect of Nyan Koi interesting, which is why I deigned to drop it so quickly.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Yeah, I saw that nyuuzu already at ANN the other day. Was too lazy to post it, though.
The problem is that the official site doesn't say WHEN we get moar K-ON, only that production has been green-lit.
Also, the Mugi-chan takuan is made of win.
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Watched Sora no Woto, which I refuse to spell all spaced out any further due to laziness, and Baka to Test, similarly shortened, today. The former still definitely feels like K-On! joins the army, but while the character designs are similar, the art isn't. Still, it seems like an entertaining enough show, at least for the moment. Baka to Test had an amusing first episode, worth following longer (esp. given the remainder of this season) at least for now.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Yeah, those are the only two shows from the new season that I've watched so far, too. SnW gets maybe one or two more episodes out of me before I give it up, because it was so random and disjointed that I felt like I spend 20-some-odd minutes watching and didn't actually see almost anything. Nothing... happened. At all.
And yes, the "military K-ON" parallel wasn't lost on me, either. I've seen it called that a few different places on the internets.
As for BtT, I agree that the first ep was amusing enough to warrant following it further. Besides the obvious Puzzle Fighter parody, they also threw a couple other anime and game references in there, the best of which, I thought, was the Samurai Shodown parody where the one girl builds up her power bar and kills the main char with an instant-death move (the power bar and the korosu kanji are EXACTLY like the games).
I just hope they can keep the silliness level up enough to hold my interest for the entire show.
I also picked up the first season of Hidamari Sketch, btw, since I was in the mood for some lighthearted comedy and because the second season is supposed to be better than the first (plus the third season started two days ago). I can definitively say that GA is not a clone of Hidamari, because the pacing and characters in GA are a lot more manic and the jokes in GA are WAY more art-focused, too. In the first six eps of Hidamari, they've only even had formal art-focused scenes in two or three of them. To be honest, I like GA better, but this is still a good show. The problem with the first season of Hidamari is that, according to ANN, the twelve eps have four different scriptwriters, six different episode directors and twelve different animation directors.
The entertainment value and overall feel of the eps really varies as a result. I think the second and third seasons are done normally, though, so at least there should be some consistency in them.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
No, I've read both the GA and HS manga, which Tanis has the first couple copies of each of, and they are definitely unique. I got both the first two seasons of HS but haven't watched any of it yet.
One thing to note about SnW is that it didn't even get around to introducing all the characters yet. Hopefully there will be a bit of a pickup in pace once that happens. I've heard it said that it's going to be more slice-of-life than anything though.

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Yeah, that was my impression just based upon the overall feel of the first ep of SnW, anyway, that it'd be largely slice-of-life. I only tend to go for that type of show if it's silly and funny, though, like Azumanga or Lucky Star or K-ON, so unless it picks up the humor but quick, it's gonna lose my interest very fast.
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
...yet you found Aria to be excellent and not a borefest? o.o

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
I have long since given up on trying to figure out what Frog uses as a basis for good anime. SnW is bad because nothing happened, but Aria, an anime entirely based UPON nothing happening, was good. lolwut? o.O
Ahem, anyways, yes here I iz. Nakor wants me to do a 'best and worst of 2009' which I will get around to doing. Maybe I should do something like Yahtzee and make a video of me rambling on about the best and worst. Dunno. Could be fun.
Aside from that, I'm looking forward to watching Hidamari Sketch. Provided that they remain true to the manga, it should be quite the entertaining feature. But we'll see. It wouldn't be the first time that an anime based on a awesome-win manga sucked the hind tit. Yes Negima, I'm looking at you. =_=

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE
Y'know, I somehow don't think his style would be quite as awesome without his accent though. I could be wrong. I totally think his accent adds to it though.Ahem, anyways, yes here I iz. Also, there's always the "what ELSE is there to watch" factor lol. Drop Sora no Woto and it'd basically mean following only a single anime this season. (Though if it turns out to be really bad, I guess it's better that way.)
