Boom! Headshot! U.S. Special Forces take out Osama Bin Laden

While we were distracted by a glittery wedding, a small eight man team of U.S. Special Forces strolled into a million dollar mansion compound in Pakistan and took out America's Most Wanted bad guy. Pictures were not released of the body yet, but from what we know, Special Forces took out the bodies of four people (one was a woman who was used as a human shield,) computers, and other electronics. A U.S. Helicopter crashed due to mechanical problems, which the team blew up and set on fire (along with the compound cause..why the Hell not? It's what we do.)

After officials were sure it was him, the body was buried somewhere at sea. Hopefully, weighed down into the Mariana Trench.

I just wish my Dad was alive to see this. He witnessed the attacks on the Towers that fateful day. He always believed that, "An A-Team will get him when the time is right.." It wasn't an A-Team (it was Navy SEALs.) Still, they got him.

Anyway, I was talking to two guys from one of my classes yesterday and one of them expressed the opinion that it would have been better if we'd captured Bin Laden alive and put in him on trial in a world court. You know, global community and interdependence and all that crap. Er... no. Boolsheet. All that woulda done would be to give the slippery little bastard a free worldwide propaganda outlet for who knows how long. The only reason whatsoever to keep the wanker alive would have been so we could interrogate him, and since I'm not certain he'd tell us anything of use (why would he?), we're honestly better off with him dead. We win, they lose. The end.

I was under the impression that their orders were to capture if possible, but to kill if necessary, and it turned out necessary. Mind you, 90% of what's been said about the event in media is probably wrong at this point (there's about a hundred versions of the story), but honestly, just knocking him off and being done with it is probably for the best, especially if an attempted capture might have resulted in someone in the mission getting hurt/killed in the process.

It's hard to tell what exactly our priorities were with this mission anymore, due to the fact that about twenty different versions of the event have been flung around since it occurred. Even the White House can't get its story straight, which is pathetic, considering how they're the ones who ordered the strike in the first place. I don't know why Obummer doesn't just ask the SEALs directly and get the story straight from the guys who were actually there.

That's the one I personally prefer, anyway, mostly because it's fun to say. There are probably dozens of other ones out there to choose from, spanning the gauntlet from goofy to racist to outright obscene.

I dunno about that. The horde of thumb drives that they found in his compound detailed major attacks he was planning, including attacks on trains and stuff he wanted to have carried out on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. He may have been a crazy old man, but he was still dangerous. He was also apparently still as arrogant as ever, considering how he just left all his data sitting out in the open like that. The wankbag really did us a favor by not encoding or hiding any of it, presumably because he thought we'd never catch him. Numbnuts.

Encoding is overrated, honestly. If someone wants to break it they can, it just takes time. The only way its effective is if there's a way for the data to destroy itself after a certain number of failures (self-destructive media) or to refuse attempts after a certain number of failures (lock-out method, only effective for remote access attempts).

(The exception is XOR encryption with a key equal length to the file. This makes both utterly unbreakable, but the key is, as I mentioned, the same size as the original file. You need somewhere to store your 30GB of data, and then your 30GB XOR encryption key, and a LOOOOONG time for decryption to take place.)

I was actually thinking more of him physically hiding the drives than encoding their contents, simply because the SEALs didn't have an unlimited amount of time to go digging around in his compound looking for data. They had to leave before anyone found out they were there, so if Bin Laden had simply hidden the drives somewhere, we'd never have gotten them (or at least not all of them). We're lucky he was that overconfident, though granted, he probably only got that way because we failed to find him for almost ten years.
