East Coast Earthquake.

Post by Masamune »

I was laying on the bed playing the X-Box when everything started shaking. My dogs started going crazy and I jumped up all, "What the hell?" A 6.0 or 5.8 earthquake, depending on the source, hit near Mineral, VA. I have two cracks in the foundation on the one side of my house. My friend in NYC felt very little, but my friends and family in MD are scared. Some lost things off shelves and some didn't realize what happened. A co-worker of mine in Glen Rock, PA has a cracked window.

We are not prepared for something like this at all. Any stronger and the death toll and destruction would be crippling.

I just saw the news about this like two minutes ago. What the hell? The east coast is right smack in the middle of a tectonic plate. I know about the New Madrid Fault and all that, but this isn't anywhere near that area. Anyway, an ABC News story said it could take the USGS months or even a year to figure out where the crap this thing came from. Yeesh. At least not many people got hurt. :meh:

I didn't feel a thing up here! I wasn't even aware there was an earthquake til later in the afternoon when there was a mention on the radio. Just as well... around the time it said it happened, I was browsing picture frames at AC Moore... a quake may have had me wearing 'em

I was talking to a guy in class yesterday and he said that apparently, people in the west half of the city felt the quake and people in the east half didn't. The Scioto River runs right down the middle of Columbus, so it must have had something to do with it. I was east of the river when the quake hit, so I didn't feel a thing, but people at Ohio State on the other side of the river felt it clearly. Weird. :meh:
