Post your Desktop: Summer, 2012 Edition (56K)

Post by TStodden »

I know it's been a while since we had one of these, so I thought it would be nice to bring it back.

The deal is simple, just take a picture of your desktop "as is". Just minimize all windows, hide anything embarrassing & take a snapshot of your desktop.

As usual, here's mine for the the next 4 weeks...

(25% actual size, click for full version)

This is the first time I actually shown a screenshot of my new computer (Windows 7) since I got it...

Upon looking at the screenshots of my old desktops on my old computer... You can see a small evolution.

Aug. 29, 2006 (6 years ago, to the day) -- Running Windows 98/ME, using Dragstrip
Don't remember when switched it over to XP on that computer... probably around 2008

April 30, 2010 -- Running XP (w/ WindowBlinds), using RocketDock
circa October, 2009 to Dec, 2011

I hope you enjoy my little retrospect on my past desktops... How show me yours! :dgrin:

I picked this one up somewhere and thought it was pretty amazing. Just did a reverse image search to find the original, here it is:

I'm willing to share any wallpaper I have. Just be aware that most of my old ones are formatted to 1024 x 786. The newer ones are generally formatted to 1366 x 768, but I can try to format to higher sizes if the source image doesn't require any major editing.

Thanks TStodden, though I would rather yours
be exclusively yours since it was your fin-
d. Also, chances are that I'd only use
it to show my brothers and then
it would be forgotten about
since my PC rarely leave-
s my room (laughs). I
still may change th-
e wall paper I'm
currently usi-
ng. Anyon-

Some of the wallpaper I have is just some game artwork that I found online & adapted it into wallpaper... if it wasn't in a wallpaper-friendly size. So I don't have any issues with sharing.

I know with Windows 7, you can set up a slideshow of a group of wallpaper that changes anywhere from every 10 seconds (which is way too short, IMO) to every day... About every 2 hours or longer is about the right balance for it.

Active Desktops (where you could use a webpage as wallpaper) was killed with Windows Vista (XP was the last version of Windows that supported it)... so that's really not an option anymore. Besides, that was mostly a resource killer.

If you want something more animated, Deskscapes ( http://www.stardock.com/products/deskscapes/ $20)... but if you're already using some of StarDock's software, you might be better off just getting the entire ObjectDesktop package for $50 to save some money & visually overhaul your entire desktop.

Oh, ok... thanks again for the sharing, TStodden.
Now the slide-show of images sounds inter-
esting to me. Anything to strain reso-
urces too much would be an issu-
e for me, so active backgro-
unds wouldn't be practic-
al at all (laughs). I sh-
all look more into
this tomorro-
w when I
have:

(more time...)
