Cell Phone Technology

Post by Shawn »

It's hard to believe how far technology has came with cell phones. I recently got the Samsung Galaxy S III and there are so many things this phone can do. Share photos by tapping another S III back to back is one of my favorite things. But there is another feature that I am surprised no one thought of.On the S III,it uses the front facing camera to detect if you are looking at the screen,if you are, then it stays on without having to touch the screen. This is one thing I really like.I hated having to touch the screen before it timed out and turned off. Also battery life on the S III is really good.About 16 hours on 1 charge with moderate use.I recently went with Verizon since they seem to have the best service here and faster internet as well. A little pricey but not much more then I was paying T-Mobile for half the service I get now,so it was worth the switch.
I kind of think within a few more years,Apple will be slowly losing market share the same way RIM (Blackberry) has. Apple I feel steals an idea then puts a patent on it and sues other companies for it. It's also not as open as the Android OS is and I think people are starting to see that Android, although many versions exist of it on many different models of phones, offers more customization then Apple allows. Another thing I don't like about iPhones,if it locks up,you can't pull the battery and reset it,have to wait for it to go dead. Also if the battery messes up,you can't just swap it out, plus no way to expand the storage space.

Just wonder what others think about the Cell Phone market in the last year and what to expect in the future.

Is there a way to reset the i-phones similar to how
ipods are able to utilizing the menu and center
circle button? It'll be a shame if there isn't.
My classic shuffle used to lock up a lot
and I used to let the charge run out
as you mentioned before learnin-
g of the technique mentioned
above. Holding both butto-
ns simultaneously for a
few seconds act as a
hard reset when it
does lock up. B-

the advan-

echnology,
yes... they're
amazing approa-
ch uses beyond lapt-
ops and PC's especially
since they're much more p-
ortable which make a huge be-
nefit by way of convenience. Wat-
ch and stream movies? Check! Smoot-
h internet access? Check! Access to funds
on the go? Check! Gaming on the go? Check!
It will be interesting to see what direction these
devices will take as the new year approaches. I'm su-
re no drastic designs are planned, though I wouldn't be s-
urprised if a cell phone the size and thickness of a credit car-
d is the next idea to be promoted. What improvements would yo-
u like to see on the current cell phone aside from better service and:

(storage capacity?)

Not much I would change except give us the option to uninstall bloatware from our phones, more freedom on what WE taking up space.
I think an even thinner phone will be released sooner or later as well. The S III is already thin, but with the case I use to protect it,it is 3x thicker then the actual phone, which isn't a big deal.I seen one that someone had dropped and the screen cracked.Still usable, just cracked. So I think a stronger phone that won't break when dropped would be the best thing to do. Battery life has seemed to improve on the S III.I talked to someone who has the iPhone 5 and he said battery life is horrible and he has to charge his 2 times a day.
I recently got an S III for my daughter and we have been playing around with bumping the phones together to share pictures and videos. Hard to believe that it can be done so easy now. I think the Samsung will surpass Apple sooner as far as sales go. There are rumors of a new a Samsung Galaxy coming this Spring, but I won't be buying it anytime soon.I am pretty happy with what phone I have now.

Sounds like a bit of fanboyism in favor of the android system. Both formats are great in their own respects and cater to pretty much every type of user. Personally I like the simplicity and security of iphones... and the most comprehensive app library, so that's what I have. Android based phones are good for those who like the customizability and more options on what kinda phone they want as well as more affordable price points. I got the iphone 4S myself, so can't speak for the iphone 5, but I only have to charge mine once every other day... and I use a good bit of data per day, so that's quite good to me. Restarting it is as easy as holding two buttons together for a couple seconds.

There's no way Apple's gonna go the way of Blackberry, though... There's just as many people that have issues with Samsung/Android phones as there are with iphones. Both have their strengths & weaknesses and cater to different types of phone users, so neither is going anywhere. Until one or the other innovates and raises the bar to a much higher level, it's a fairly even playing field as far as overall quality goes. Android phones will always have an edge in sales, though, just for the fact there's so many more varieties... most lower cost than the iphones.

I agree with you on that both have good and bad things about them but with my job,I hear people complaining how the iPhone 5 is more of a piece of junk and wished they would of stayed with the iPhone 4 or 4s. I guess the iPhone 5 has many problems with it.I haven' t messed with any of the iPhones but I have the iPod touches and they are pretty much the same. I would have to say that Samsung has a little bit more of an edge over the iPhones now with the S3 and Note 2. I used to hate Samsung and vowed to never own another until I messed around with the S3 and was sold on it. Android is on many carriers and different phone makers have several model,so yeah it is going to out pace the iPhone in that sense but comparing one phone against the iPhone is sales is a different story.Only the S3 has came close to jumping ahead over the other android phone makers.
I have been pretty happy with the S3 and will be keeping it for awhile since the specs are great and it does more then I would expect a phone to do. I am playing Need For Speed Most Wanted on it right now and there is no lag in the game. I guess 2GB of Ram and a Dual core 1.5 CPU does pretty good.
