Got my BA, off to get my MSc in the autumn

Realized I didn't mention it here. I'm graduating with a BA with honours in mathematics and a major in German. I suppose I'm not actually awarded my BA for a couple weeks yet, but the grades are in so it's a formality at this point. I've been accepted to McGill's graduate mathematics program to work with a professor there in the field of algebraic topology. I'll be focused on discrete maths, primarily group theory and representations in all likelihood. One year master's program and (barring a sudden plummet in grades) then a PhD with funding guaranteed. The goal is to stay in academia and find work there after (starting as a postdoc and going where I can from there); it's less a monetary decision (which would probably send me instead into actuarial work) and more that I enjoy the opportunity to research, the constant free access to the wealth of research and knowledge a university position comes with, and the opportunity to teach.

In the mean time I'm enjoying a relatively relaxed summer, after having moved back from UBC to stay with my folks for a bit and help them out.

The degree has been conferred, but the ceremony is the end of this month. I'm not sure just yet whether I'll actually be able to go, due to some health issues in the family, but in the end that's just a ceremony, and I'll be going for a higher tier of degree after in any case.

Yeah, he actually moved a while back and he's living a block from my folks' place now. We're able to spend a fair bit of time together for the moment while I'm still here, until I head off in August out east. He's doing great. He's actually down in the states doing a reenactment at the moment.
