I found me another Lab

I go pick up my new lab next week.I have been waiting and looking and finally found one I feel I am happy with. It's going to be fun trying to get my little ankle biter used to another dog since he has been the only dog for 6 years but I think I can make it work since the lab will be 8 weeks old the day I pick him up. I waited until spring to get one so I can take time training him outside and getting him housebroke faster. Kids have no idea I am getting one and he is 1 1/2 hours away,but I will drive to go get him next week when they call.

Went and picked him up today. There were only 2 males in the litter so I got 1st pick. Here are a few pictures. He is going to be a big lab.

I was in a hurry when I posted the picture. When I picked up Jake,the person selling the labs had already taken them to the vet for shots and had all the needed info ready to give out when we bought him.
I was surprised because I rarely have heard of people doing that for the price I paid for Jake. They had a litter of 11 pups and each one was taken to the vet and each person who buys one will have it.
Jake is going to be a larger then average Lab.At 7 1/2 weeks he looks and feels about 12 weeks old.

I am happy I finally got me another Lab again. I've regretted rehoming my other one 6 years ago and it's bothered me since I had to give him up. I won't be doing that again. Our Rat Terror isn't so happy with me. I took him to the vet yesterday for shots and nail trim and then brought in another dog. He has been ignoring me since I came home. A few treats will work to make him happy again. The vet weighed him and he's 23lbs. Kind of fat for his breed.

He is a cute puppy.Already starting the play biting thing and he has some sharp teeth lol. I made an album on photobucket to share pictures instead of doing a bunch and using space here.
He is getting lots of attention from us and the neighbor.They want to keep him.He is going to be a big dog when fully grown.

Our neighbors have a Boxer names Jesse.She likes to come visit sometimes lol She sees the puppy and wants to play. I haven't been around a boxer that was so well behaved. She was abused so she doesn't bark or make to many noises but she is a really good dog.Wish I could steal her. I think Jake and Jesse will be friends and play together soon.

Just a week in and Jake is doing well. He is crate trained and when he has to go out,he whiles and starts for the back door. My g/f didn't think it would be a week.I told her Labs are smart and pick up on things faster then most other dogs.
He loves water and will go out in the rain and run around and roll in the grass. Of course he knows he gets a bath after and enjoys them just as much.On his way outside he tried to go in the bathroom and get in for his bath. If he was just a little bigger,he could probably get in on his own. I can't wait until he is a little bigger and not so puppy like so I can start the training I started with my last one.

He seems to get along with everyone but the smaller dog I have hates him still. Always have to have a camera ready when he is awake,he does some pretty stupid puppy things
He is getting big fast and I will have to buy a bigger crate soon,within a few weeks. He's learning some new things and some bad habits but we'll work on them when he is a little older and not so much of a curious puppy.

Jake is doing well with training.I was going to wait a few more weeks but he is ready now. He knows when he goes out for the bathroom to sit near the cabinet where the treats are.We had to move them to the top shelf so nothing gets broke.
It took me 2 days to teach Jake to shake when he wants a treat. He finally knows his name and will turn and look at you when you say it.

Still working on getting the Rat Terror to play with him.He doesn't like the puppy at all,but is getting used to him slowly.



I'll get better pictures next time he is calmed down.He likes to play rough and we crate him for 20 minutes after he does it.I am glad I bought him and he will be a good dog.I have the neighbors to the south with the boxer and they run back and forth growing and barking at each other.I know the boxer means no harbeen easy to

I think my little Rat Terror is used to Jake now. They like to play rough in the house. They chase each other around,Spot (Rat Terror) will growl the whole time and Jake barks and pounces towards him then runs. I will have to get some video of what those 2 crazy dogs do now.
I didn't think Spot would ever get used to him since he is 6 years old and usually his breed don't take to other dogs well after being the only dog for that long but finally they can play.Jake has a small cut under his eye from Spot scratching him so it's time for him to get his nails trimmed again. Jake is 3 months old today and is doing well with training. I am still working on him to stop and sit when I stop when walking him on his leash. I was told to wait until 15 weeks to leash train him,but he is smart,he figured out how to walk himself! The first few tries were hard so I took Spot with us and he seen how Spot walks on a leash and started doing that. This dog is to smart and getting to darn big. He still has huge paws and a huge head for his age.I am going to guess he will be close to 100 lbs or so when fully grown. Right now he is about 40ish lbs but doesn't look it.He is tall and skinny and eats like a horse.

Thanks.He sure is getting big and has been doing some crazy things,running into chairs,trying to fit under the bird cage since he done it when he was smaller.
I have noticed his coat keeps getting longer so he may be mixed with something,but he is at least 95% Lab. That is really the only thing that doesn't make him 100% Lab but the vet told us he has seen Labs with long coats that had AKC papers so who knows. It's not a huge deal to me.I am happy with how he is and how fast he is picking things up.
Still working on getting him to sit when I walk and stop of leash,but he doesn't always pay attention to when I stop.He is to busy playing with everything that fits in his mouth.
Something I will probably wait a few more months on to train him. He does sit,shale and high five on command and sometimes with out being told,just holding up a finger or 2 is the command. Smart dog and glad I have a Lab with me again. My landlord didn't care,he sees that we are clean with the other dog and the house doesn't smell like dog or anything of that if you know what I mean and he has asked how we manage to do that. We told him training and frequent baths. Jake has to have one every other day or he'll stink the house up. He rolls around to much in the grass,even when raining he does it.So the landlord is ok with us having 2 dogs as long as the place is kept clean. He mentioned he has a few other with 1 dog and it just smells like you know what and is considering a no pet policy which he said would not affect us since we try to keep it clean and no smells. Jake is crated at night since he chews on everything. I'll add more picture when he gets bigger in a few weeks.
My daughter is taking him to bark in the park next month.He's had all his puppy shots so he is good to go and not worry about getting parvo or something else. I have stuck to the vets recommendations and he wants to do 1 more round of Parvo shots in August since Parvo runs very rampant in my area. So he goes back Aug 24th for those shots.
