Maxine cracks me up. Maybe it's because she reminds me so much of Stephanie Cole in "Waiting For God" (the Britcom)

That type of extremely sarcastic, caustic humor is kind of a hit-or-miss thing for me. This particular strip is funny about half the time, I think, and just plain bitchy the other half of the time. That's just the nature of that type of humor, I guess. $:\$

Exactly, but like we talked about in the other thread about gender jokes, people shouldn't be taking it seriously to the point of getting upset or uncomfortable over it.

It's not any more sarcastic or caustic than George Carlin's humor.

Nope, definitely not.

I never get offended by anything in Maxine. I just don't find complaining about stuff to be funny all the time, and at its core, that's what the strip really is for the most part. Whether or not it comes across as funny to me depends upon what she's complaining about and how she says it. Same thing goes for anybody, really. George Carlin isn't funny all the time, either.

Oh I know. But think about it...that's what gender jokes are all about. Could it be that you find her complaining more annoying because she tends to bash men?

Nah, there's not much of a pattern to which strips I do and don't find funny. I think what matters the most is how clever the invididual strip is. In that same vein, some of the ones in this thread are funnier than others. For example, the "don't let your mind wander" one is good, while the "never go to bed angry" one isn't all that amusing.

I also wonder what's up with all the bootleg Maxine strips. Only about half the ones in this thread are authentic.

I love Maxine cartoon strips !!!!! They always seem to make me laugh. I find the older I get, the more I can relate
