It's Da First Time.....

Post by BlueMolly2006 »

Okay what was the first time you heard your favorite artsts/bands? Name some of the bands/artists you like and then list (if you remember) the first time you got into them. I'll start:

The Damned: Well, the very first time I saw them was on The Young Ones when they did "Nasty", but the video that got me into them was "Alone Again, Or". I was actually looking at videos on YouTube and that video popped out at me. I remember seeing that video back in the 80s and remember liking the song. Didn't know it was Dave Vanian and da boys.

Spandau Ballet: I was watching America's Top Ten with Casey Kasem (sp) and saw the video and fell instantly in love with Tony Hadley (lead singer). That was 23 years ago.

Talk Talk: Seeing the video for "Such a Shame" on some video music show back in 1984. I've been a fan ever since.

The Beatles: My parejts playing the Magical Mystery Tour album and the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" coming on. That's been my all time favorite Beatles song ever.

Kate Bush: Seeing the video for "Sat In Your Lap" on a video show back I think it was in 194 or 1985.

XTC: I FIRST got into them after seeing their video for "Dear God" but I didn't get into them intil I saw their "Mayor of Sompleton" video and bought their "oranges and Lemons" album. I have most of their CDs and have an autograph from Andy Partridge.

I think it was 1974, we went to the old Winterland in SF to see Stevie Winwood and Traffic.
We never heard of the opening band which turned out to be Kansas. They KICKED ASS that night! :banger:

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Back in 1973 (I was 6 Years old which should tell my age) My older brother brought home the brand new "Pronounced Leh'-nerd Skin'-nerd" album! I liked every song on that record, but the last track was my favorite (And still is) FREEBIRD! I've loved just about everything they've put out!

Dio: First time I heard Ronnie James Dio was on the Black Sabbath album "Heaven & Hell" I been hooked on his style of metal ever since!

Judas Priest: First song by Judas Priest I remember hearing is "The Green Manalishi" off their 1979 album "Hell Bent For Leather".

I'm not going to go through a list, but I wanted to say that back sometime in the 90's, I believe...VH1 did one of it's VERY first countdowns ever, and it was the 100 Most Influential Women in Rock.

It changed my life. Many of my now favorite artists, I first saw there and I'll never forget it.

My fave artist is Frank Boeijen en I recorded one of his songs when I was 13 on casette and played it over and over, but I had no idea who sang it. So when I was a bit older and got enought pocket money to buy records. I went to the record store with my casette player and played the song for the man behind the counter. He told me that it was Frank Boeijen. By that time I already owned a few singles by Frank, but never matched this old song with the singles I bought later on.

Paul Janz - In the mid 90s, our MuchMusic channel did an 80s Weekend and they showed the video for his 1985 hit "Go to Pieces". At the time, I only knew him for his massive 1990 hit "Every Little Tear". It wasn't until last year when I started collecting Canadian music, that I decided to get some of his albums. I found a copy of his Greatest Hits and discovered a whole handful of songs that I'd completely forgotten about. One such song titled "Close My Eyes" was a song that I loved when I was a kid, and hearing it again, brought the biggest smile to my face. It's now my all-time favourite song ever. It always was, I just never realized it

Texas - I started collecting those UK Double CD sets "Now That's What I Call Music" in 1999. The first one I ever bought was "Now 38" (which originally came out in 1997). I found it in a pawn shop and on it was a song by Texas called "Black Eyed Boy" which I liked so much, I went out and bought their 1997 CD "White on Blonde". I've been hooked ever since, and I now own all of their albums
