Prehistoric lovers found locked in eternal embrace...

Post by Diabolique »

Archaeologists find skeletons locked in a tender embrace near Verona, Italy. The young lovers' remains were buried between 5,000 and 6,000 years ago.

They appear to cuddle closely while facing each other on their sides. Shakespeare's classic star-crossed tale 'Romeo and Juliet' set in Verona, Italy.

That's something... especially where they've not found anything quite like that. Would be interesting if they could uncover anything more about what happened and who they were!

My first thought on this was Vesuvius. The Volcano that Devestated Pompeii, but then I remembered that eruption ocured in 79 AD, roughly 3,000-4,000 years AFTER this pair died according to the article.

But, looking at Vesuvius' Principle Seismic history from 79 AD to today, It erupted 29 times (on record). That's not to say it couldn't have caused the deaths of this pair.

That kinda reminds me of a movie called "Timeline" that I saw.

I wonder what happened with those two.

That is what I was thinking too! They probably knew the end was near, so they decided to 'go' together.

My parents have been to Pompeii and have seen some amazing stuff there. They even brought back some lava rocks from when they went up to the Vesuvius. That's one place I'd like to visit some day. I've been to other regions in Italy, but unfortunately didn't have time to get to Pompeii.

What an amazing story. I would love to know more also. Hopefully with forensics, an anthropologist might be able to piece together a little more of the story for us. I am really curious what more they will be able to tell. That is really cool your parents visited Pompeii. I have always wanted to go there. One day maybe i will get over this fear of flying thing, lol. One of my members where i worked at in Texas brought me back a lava rock too from there. I need to go and try to find it, I havent seen it since I moved. it was so thoughtful of them.

I sorta wish they would just cover the bones up and
let them lie as they are.

 I'm thinking that's probably not the case, Molly. ;)

Still, it would be interesting to find out how they ended up buried that way; hmmm....
