What are your DRIVER & DRIVING PET PEEVES?

Post by Corvette Girl »

There are 2 things I find highly annoying:

1) going veeeeeery slow on the fastest lane. Like...going at 30 mph in a 75 mph zone.

and

2) Tailgating! I had a truck do this while I was on the right lane going at 75mph. What the heck is wrong with some people?
I ain't getting a speeding ticket because Mr Trucker needs to go to the bathroom! There is always the left lane, dammit

What are the things that annoy the heck outta you while driving?

People going slow in the fast lane is definitely a big one. People not knowing how to drive in snow and compensating by going 5mph is another.

People doing multiple things at the same time like smoking and talking on the cell phone at the same time. Neither bothers me by itself, but doing both it's like What are you driving with?

I can understand the need/desire to be on the phone while driving, especially if you have over 30 miles one way to work like I do. But if you know you're going to be on the phone for a while, use a headset/earpiece.

I don't know pet peeves but major reasons to eliminate stupid drivers with everything legal and illegal from the streets. :dgrin:

Like...hey, that sign "School kids on board" doesn't mean that you are free to tailgate, cut in right before the bumper, overtake with high speed at close distance when the hazard lights are on clearly showing that kids are entering or leaving the bus unless that you are of the same twisted kind like me. But since you are not me, leave it. :irked:

Those mentioned are pretty much my main peeves  That and hitting too many red lights... or red lights that take 3 years to change green :p Then there's the goons that turn or change lanes suddenly without using a turn signal. Getting stuck behind a school bus can be a horror show too if in a rush to get somewhere...

Yeah...using the turning signal seems to have become "uncool" here, especially among the drivers of premium class automobile labels and young immigrants from the Middle East.

The real horror show begins if the driver who was in a rush and thinks that this qualifies dangerous driving runs over a child. At least if he or she has one bit of conscience left.

I think what annoys me the most are people who are in such a big facking hurry for no apparent reason and keep changing lanes in an effort to get past literally everyone on the road ahead of them. Even when the traffic isn't moving all that fast, they just keep trying to speed up, which sometimes causes them to piss me off additionally by tailgating me. To make matters worse, this has happened to me when I was going 75 mph in the fast lane. So ten miles over the speed limit isn't fast enough for you, huh? Have some great, burning desire to get pulled over, do you? Fvckjobs. :o Granted, there is one upside to running across these people, which is that I get to laugh at them for changing lanes and flooring it, only to have to slow down again 100 feet later when they get stuck behind someone else going a normal speed. Nyaha.

The only pet peeve I have is state troopers that enforce the speed limit. I should be able to drive as fast as I safely can, which is about 150 mph in my car.

That's great, until somebody who doesn't know how to drive safely for squat cuts in front of you while you're doing 150 on the highway. I can guarantee you THAT wouldn't end well. :meh: The reason I don't drive that fast, even when I still feel totally in control of my car, is because I'm not in control of all the morons on the road, and I can't avoid them properly if I'm going that fast. :\

Very well put Frong!

Despite scoring among the highest in that online driver test some months back, I Swear Washington State has some of the stupidest drivers in the world! Hell, I've said it numerous times to Chooch, Californians drive a Helluva lot better then these morons!

That said, My experiences in driving the "great northwest" I get the whole smorgasbord of what was already posted. The slow guy in the fast lane, the guy that cuts out in front of you, the cellphone idiot, etc.

I even got "names" for these people!

"Slow Poke Rodriguez" - people who insist on going UNDER the speed limit! WTF is up with doing 35 in a 45??? Chooch calls me impatient, but if that idiot doesn't know what the long pedal on the right is for, he/she has NO business on the roads!

"Ass Hugger" - This jerkoff makes sure you can't even see his/her Headlights in your mirrors, no matter what speed you go!

"Gabby" - cell phones and driving DO NOT MIX! These asswipes pay more attention to their convo's then they do their driving. Yeah I have a cell phone, But I have Chooch deal with the calls if she's in the car with me, if I'm alone in the car, here's a news flash..I HAVE A MISSED CALL feature. When I get where I'm going I'll call you back...NOT while I'm Driving!! I've also noticed that a vast majority of the "blinkless" (those that refuse to use turn signals), are also "gabbies".

"the tourist" - this is the guy who hits his/her brakes every 13 feet! Okay jackass, it's a tree, you've seen one , you've seen em all...move along

the "lookie-loo" (I credit Chooch with this name) if a cop has someone pulled over, or there is an accident, there is ALWAYS that bonehead (often many boneheads) that HAS to slow down and look. It's none of your Business Nosey! MOVE IT!

Hurricane Alley - being stuck behind a semi in bad weather. Whoever designed mudflaps needs to be SHOT! Damn things don't work! Not only do you get a harsh shower from this truck, but DIRTY Water makes my windshield wipers almost useless!!

Long Assed Lights I have a theory for these wastes of time and gas...some jerkoff has a remote control to the light as he is laughing his ass off as I lose circulation to my right leg holding that brake pedal down.

Despite the fact I hate being behind a semi at a light (A Gaurantee it'll take four years to get up to Speed limit) I can't really fault the driver, These trucks were designed for power, not speed.

Driving along beside trucks is a particular bit of insanity that I’ve never understood. The proper way to pass a truck on a multi-lane highway is to stay about 2-3 car lengths behind the end of the trailer, wait until you have room ahead, then signal and accelerate past.

A few tips I picked up from my brother who is a trucker, that would make life easier for you AND the trucker:

If you MUST pass the truck, if possible, do so on the driver side of the truck, this makes it easier for the trucker to see you. Especially if the truck is not equipped with "lowboy" mirrors (the round mirrors mounted on the front fender of the truck...they are so the driver can see the passenger side of his truck). Also, If you can see his/her rear view mirrors, the odds are pretty good he/she can see you. if you can't see them, all the trucker sees is the trailer or any vehicle behind you, but not you!

Okay I think I wrote a book now...NEXT!

Number one thing I see around here are people who can't stand it if you don't speed. I do the speed limit, pretty much everywhere. Even in the rare case I'm over the limit though, they still insist on ramming themselves up your ass. Are people really that impatient that they can't just do 50? Seriously, my drive home from work is all residential, not a straight road, and heavily populated by students from both a high school, and an elementary, which doubles as a place a lot of kids play sporting events. I see people doing 75 regularly (~46 miles/hr) through the school zone. >_<

Someone (no idea who) got mad enough to spraypaint a giant "50" on the road before the elementary school . . . not that it did any good.

(50km/h is the speed limit on most in-town roads in Canada . . . 35km/h is the school zone speed.)

Very good summary, Dio - ever thought of a career within the traffic ministry? ;) :thumb:

Hey...it's you women claiming to have the ability of multitasking...

Another behaviour on the road I do approve "very much"...on the rare occasions I'm speeding up faster than 130 kph (80 mph) on the left lane, I can bet my most privatest parts that some idiot on the middle or left lane just pulling out in front of me when I'm close enough, forcing me to throw the anchor - although there's enough space and time to let me pass. And to add it up, that moron is then overtaking with a speed difference of 2 or 3 kph, dragging out the process for kilometres and producing a queue of almost the same length.

That's partially what I was complaining about before. Just because you have some moronic desire to go faster doesn't mean I should have to accomodate you. :o

Ah yes, that reminds me of another one - the jerkwads who refuse to let you in front of them for no apparent reason. Those people SERIOUSLY piss me the fvck off. It is going to permanently damage their ego or something if, God forbid, they give someone else the right of way? Even when I signal way ahead of time, they still won't slow down for two seconds and let me change lanes. Naturally, this seems to happen most often when I specifically need to get over to the right because my exit is coming up or something. Go figure. :1ohboy:
