Frong wrote:OK, so I went to one pet shelter place today. They had a bunch of cats, with the older ones hanging around freely in one room, the somewhat older kittens goofing off in another, and the very young kittens in big cages in the main room, to make sure they didn't run off and get hurt as well as to let them feel safe (they all had cat condos and stuff, besides food/water and litterboxes, obviously). All the cats looked healthy and well-cared for, which was good. I think my favorites were two pairs of marmalade kittahs, one brother + sister and one brother + ??? (I couldn't tell and he/she's not listed on their website for some reason ). I really like the second pair. One of them purrs like a motorboat. Teh cute. :D

So anyway, since I didn't actually buy kittah today (don't have the food and litterbox yet, need those first), I'll stay on topic by noting that I did go to the Winterfair arts fair today and buy a chocolate cranberry cake in a jar (things are freakin' gewd; I get a new flavor every year :chew:) and a really nice, light blue handmade ceramic bowl. I'll have to take a picture of it and put it online. I love the color.

Ooooooooooh so you think you'll get 2 kitties then?
Also...check your local Petsmart if you haven't yet...they always have an adoption section with lots of cats and kittens.

I can't WAIT to see pictures of your new kitty! :dgrin:

The multimedia external drive is still on my want list, but I couldn't resist to get another Singstar game (Legends) for the PS2 and a CD "Awake The Machines Vol. 6".

I went to Petsmart last night and get some of the stuff I need for kittahs. Got litterbox + litter + deodorizer, and food/water bowls. Need to go back sometime this week and get hair roller for myself/couch/clothes/everything, as well as something or another for them to maybe shred instead of my carpet. :p Not gonna get food until I find out exactly which kittahs I'm gonna get and ask what they've been eating to this point. Don't wanna have to put up with potential complaining right away because of picky eaters.

There weren't a lot of cats at the Petsmart adoption center, though there was a very cute pair of gray + gray/black kittens. I still really like the ones I saw a few days ago, though, so I'll see if they're both still there by the end of the week. If nobody's adopted them yet, I could get them on a Friday evening and have the whole weekend to hang around with them before I have to go back to work and leave them alone all day.

You should also think about some cat grass and a brush - both to the comfort of your new home dominators, although the first item will make you curse in the end. ;)

Yeah, I need the brush, too, now that I think about it. *adds to list of crap to get* As for catnip, I'll wait a while before I go anywhere near that. Kittens are hyperactive enough as it is. I doubt they'll need the catnip quite yet. Besides, I plan on having Ye Laser Pointer o' Doom to play with. Muahaha.

Nah, I'm not speaking of that grass...but of the legal, run down the mill-stuff you can get without getting in trouble with the CatBI.

Cats do need & eat grass (known as "lawn" to some can openers) in order to get the hairballs out of their intestines. That's why I'm speaking of it will make you curse once you find the successful results of the ingestion of grass on your rug, your bed or in your shoes (although it's pretty amazing - Louie actually uses the litterbox in most cases he's barfing instead of letting go wherever it suits like Shorty does :thumb: ).

As for the laser pointer...indeed, a good and comfortable tool for driving your cats into hyper from a remote place like the TV chair, but take care that the beam doesn't hit their eyes. Cat eyes are way more sensitive to light even if they have pupils reacting very fast.

So basically, I'm supposed to deliberately give them stuff that makes them barf all over my floor. Fun. :looney: I was told by a lady I know who's had tons of cats that if you put a little bit of vaseline on their nose, it'll help them get rid of hairballs because it lubricates the hair gunk enough that they can get it out easier.

Well, you could feed them 15W-40...should have the same effect. If vaseline is not intended for oral reception by humans, I'm almost dead sure that the same applies for cats. You can tell that this lady next time you meet her, and give her my phone number if she wants to complain. :D
There's also some cat food specially designed to help move the hair down south available, but if the cats don't like it, your rug etc. is bummed the same way. Even worser (for the cat this time) if the food doesn't live up to its expectation which can happen with long-fur breeds.

BOT...I got the Iomega ScreenPlay HD 1 TB external hard drive, with a nice 19% rebate too.

Seeing as the lady always has like 25 cats at one time (she takes in strays, gets them fixed + their shots, etc., and then keeps them) and has done so for probably decades, I'm inclined to take her advice on this. :p Her cats are all in good health, too. One of her Siamese lived to be 21, and I think another of her cats made it to 20.

So anyway, went back to Petsmart yesterday and got the rest of my primary cat care stuff: cat carrier, wire cat brush, hair removal mitt thing, soft hanging scratching thing, and food. I'll have to see how they like the food I got; it's just the store-brand food, essentially, but the nutritional values compare to a mid-level brand name food like Purina or Meow Mix (it's also what they feed all the cats in their adoption center, so it has to be halfway decent). Maybe if I made more money, I could get a higher-end food, but that's not really an option right now. :\ So that leaves me with just two things left to buy: laser pointer and feather-string-stick toy. Funtiem. :D

So what exactly do you plan on PUTTING on that large of a hard drive, anyway? Even with all the anime I watch, I'd have to DL every fansub in sight to take up that much disk space.

It was simply a value for money thing (the 500 GB Screenplay would have costed the same without rebate)- one can't have too much space. :D
Of the 932 GB netto space, I have already used 181 GB for movies and audio now. Plus, I don't need to burn every movie on disc anymore but simply load it to the ext drive.

181 gigs... the entirety of my mp3s take up about 3.5 gigs, and think I'd have to DL literally like 60-70 or more full anime shows just to take up that much space. And that's only like a quarter of the drive. That's nuts, man. :looney:

That is great, Wavemeister! I could always use more GB's
myself in spite of having a 500 GB external HDD. Min-
e has an adapter, but a friend of mine showed m-
e one he recently invested in which has no ne-
ed for any connection aside from the USB
one... and that I MUST OWN! I have y-
et to store movies on my HDD, tho-
ugh with the 500 GB's at my dis-
posal, I should. My music col-
lection has grown on my l-

my discs a few w-

do you h-

your a-

d on an ipod or
MP3/4 player of a-
ny type or are they r-

last purchase was Persona 4, P-
rince of Persia, Personal Trainer: C-
ooking and Korg DS-10. And while this
is not a purchase, my g/f and one of her
sisters made some chocolate chip cookies f-
or me! I had some already, but only to prevent
the lid from umm, crushing the uhh, rest of them.
