Blockbuster stores are having a bit of a fire sale for the PlayStation 3 this weekend, reports Kotaku. The word comes from a leaked memo from Blockbuster, which claims that starting on Sunday, the 40GB model will retail for $360, and the bundle that includes an HDMI cable, Spiderman 3 on Blu-Ray, and Transformers: The Game will drop to $400. Several other Blockbuster stores reportedly confirmed the information.

Curiously, Kotaku originally reported this as an official Sony price cut -- something that would affect all retailers. This was apparently confirmed to Kotaku by several Blockbuster employees (as well as the wording of the memo), but Sony told them this is not the case. Alas.

For those who haven't picked up a PlayStation 3 yet, this might be a good time just before some of Sony's tentpole releases like LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2. What exactly you do to snag over $350 in two days is your own business.
