Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
Eeeeeeh... Except that all mech shows have largely sucked... I mean, name me a good one. With a good, solid story and characters that don't make me want to gouge my eyes out with a spork.
I guess my point is that, yes, blowing stuff up is cool. And yes, by that logic, scaling up the explosive goodness should equate to even more coolness. But at the same time, if I get to blow stuff up but I have to sit in a giant bowl of turds to be allowed to blow stuff up, then the blowing stuff up is going to take a severe drop in coolness.

Well yeah, obviously if the rest of the show sucks, then no amount of blowing stuff up will compensate for that. I don't like all giant mech shows, mind you. In fact, way too many of them are angsty and/or comically exaggerated crap on a stick.
I would at least tell you to watch Gundam 08th MS Team, though. That's the only Gundam show in which the Gundams themselves are not the ludicrously overpowered, laws-of-physics-breaking überweapons that they are in basically every other show with that name on it. Instead, they're mass-produced mechs (as are the enemy Zakus), meaning the characters are the focal point of the show, not the machines. All of the characters are regular people with no superpowers or anything, either, and most of them are low-ranking soldiers, to boot. Overall, the show takes a realistic approach to war, more along the lines of what actual warfare would be like if we had big (but not stupidly powerful) mechs today. You might actually enjoy it in spite of yourself.

Maybe I should've been watching MM! after all... just for the lulz....

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
Yeah, MM! has actually been a decent source of cheap lulz for me thus far. Outside of the one almost shockingly serious bit in eps 2-3 (I won't spoil it, but it really is surprising; at least they handle the topic well), it never has any delusions about its identity as a total screwball comedy. And yeah, the DBZ parody made me laugh pretty hard the first time I saw it, especially since it's powered by pervert energy.

A couple early (and untranslated) promos:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... s-streamed
Gothic: The girl's name is Victorique. Also, she smokes a white pipe. o.o;;
Zombie: o.o;;;;;;
The third is really just a music video for a single being released -- which is kind of a pity, because the art is really good (so is the song).

Probably not gonna bother with Gosick, simply because I almost never watch detective shows. Don't care for them all that much. I'm totally giving Zombie a shot, though. Anything with magical girls, vampire ninjas, and random people getting resurrected as zombies has to have been created by an original author on a substantial amount of mind-altering substances. This is relevant to my interests.
Also, the main dude's look when his arm kinda breaks in half and just hangs there is hilarious.

Another chart from another location -- this one is pretty much the same but with dates added. (Also, it's huge. One of these days they'll learn CSS and stop making enormous jpegs.)

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
The only shows I'm definitely going to watch are still Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka, Mitsudomoe S2 and Freezing, and I'll most likely start Beelzebub, too (the little bit I read of the manga was pretty funny). I may give a few other ones a shot, like Fractale, but I'm not getting my hopes up. There's no way this coming season is going to be anywhere near as good as the current one that's ending.
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
Fractale... maybe. I'll be going with Zombie, Kimi ni Todoke 2, and I think I'll check out Gothic. I pondered Tamayura but it's not really my style, especially since it's from Aria's creator. (Really popular, I know, but I just couldn't see a point to it.)
And there's always Fairy Tail.

The last Anime I watched was Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro. I have not really paid much attention to any others to watch.

Spring '11 v2 chart is out. This is for the season running April-June before anyone gets confused.

I don't see anything in it that cries out awesome, but I think there are more series that have a good chance at being decent.

Isn't it a little early for the spring chart to be out? I'd have thought there'd be some stuff that wouldn't be announced yet.
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
Yeah, it surprised me a bit too. But the list seems quite thorough, and it's a v2 chart to boot. *shrug*

Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
This is a v2? When in the heck did they release the v1?
Re: Manga / Anime thread of GREAT JUSTICE - Spring '10 Edition!
M'kay, so Gosick is at least worth continuing. It's got a bit of a Scooby Doo vibe now though, since there's ghost stories that the girl is proving are just people setting up things to look like ghost stories. Anyway, it seems interesting enough. (Ep 1 was all set-up though, doesn't really start 'til ep 2.)
Kimi ni Todoke is exactly what it was before... meaning I'll probably watch it through and probably hope it gets somewhere and probably be disappointed. Because I'm probably masochistic. Or something.
Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? did indeed turn out to be a comedy, and I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed that they didn't try to take it seriously and do a hilariously bad job. >.> First ep was amusing, not enough to know if the series will be, but I'll hang onto it for now.
