NHL Playoff Outlook

Post by Nakor »

Here's a brief overview of the two conferences, what teams can still make it (however outside the odds).

LEGEND:

Team: The team. Duh.
GP: Games Played.
Pts: Points in the standings
Max: The most points a team could potentially get by the end of the season [Pts + 2 * (82 - GP)]
Clinch: This is the "magic number" required to clinch a playoff spot - to clinch, a team needs to reach this number in any combination of points they earn, and points the team(s) in 9th fail to. "In" and "Out" means the team is just that - in the playoffs for sure, or out of them.

14 TB 76 70 82 Out
15 NYI 75 59 73 Out
Four teams fallen so far, and several soon to follow. Interesting to note: St. Louis does not have enough games remaining to clinch their 8th spot without Edmonton losing a game. They do not play each other, and on the unlikely chance they both win all their remaining games, Edmonton takes the tie-breaker (and ergo requires one fewer point to clinch)
