Olympics in Chicago? Yay or Nay?

Many want to see South America get it (they never hosted the Olympic games before and we've had a few.) Many want it because it's the Obamas hometown. Many don't want it because it's the Obamas hometown.

What say ye?

Nah. I'm with the "South America should get it because it's never been there before" group. If the entire fookin' continent's never had an Olympics hosted there before, isn't it about time they did already?

Well, Chicago was very promptly eliminated, and in the end Rio won their bid and will bring the Olympics to South America.

It don't matter to me but I guess let Rio have it. Either way I'm not gonna bother watching it.

The summer olympics serve no other purpose but to cause great annoyance for me. Nothing like bring bombarded with non-stop updates, features and ads.

That being said, I say share the wealth, so I'm glad that Rio got it.

Well, I say good for them. Now let's get back around to the Winter Olympics again so we can watch more hockey.

Ah yeah, you live there eh? Still, it's not like I'll get to go to the Vancouver ones... the prices are outrageous. We worked out it'd be over $1000 for three of us to attend one of the hockey games, just for tickets... if you could even get them in the first place.

I'll be watching 2010 on the TV like everyone else.

Yeah, that's true. The prices for any Olympic event that's actually worth seeing are absolutely absurd. It's a total ripoff, really, when you consider that in the case of sports like hockey, nearly all the players are in the NHL already, anyway. If you wanna see them play, just go to some NHL games.

Speaking of which, I'm not sure if people in Rio will get the full experience. I mean most of the people in the seats will be people of Rio and nearby. But for the really close seats, the really good seats, most or all will likely go to rich and VIP privilege American spectators. Just like when you go to a major concert or show, often the people in the front row are not actual fans. They're just rich socialite types who go to any show just to be in the front row.

You might be right. Is that how it's been at previous Olympics, or can normal people actually manage to get the really good seats some of the time?

A significant percentage of seats are reserved for major corporations and such to do giveaways.

Hopefully there will be a lot of South American gold medal winners who will do the bare minimum of celebrating and appearances for the arena and TV, then go to the streets and really celebrate with the people.
