3D movies
3D movies
Anyone go to see movies in this format? I haven't gone to a movie in 3D at a theater since 'Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare' back in '91 with the old red/blue glasses
So went to see Clash of the Titans last week in Real3D and was amazed how far it's come! The glasses look plain and ordinary, but once ya put 'em on, everything's right in your face in HD! A virtual reality standard can't be far behind with how close the current 3D is getting.
Re: 3D movies
You know, it's funny that you should mention seeing Clash of the Titans in 3D, because I read not long after it came out that the 3D effects for that were terribad. Unlike Avatar, the movie wasn't filmed with special 3D cameras, and the effects were basically slapped on there at the last minute just for the hell of it (or else to try and make more money) A bunch of reviewers, including Ebert, said that you're actually better off watching it in 2D, instead.
Blah... I still haven't seen Avatar yet, and at this rate, it'll be out of theaters before I'd ever get around to it. I suppose it doesn't matter, though. No doubt other movies in the future are going to use the same dedicated 3D technology or maybe something even better, so I'll just wait until later and see what it looks like then, instead.

Re: 3D movies
I've heard that about Avatar. It's already gonna be out on Blu Ray/DVD this week, so if it's not out of theaters yet, I'm sure it will be now. I think my amazement, even if Clash was lackluster, is the fact I haven't seen a 3D movie since the early 90s, so compared to that, it was good
I will say that the previews to coming attractions in 3D looked far superior effects-wise
Re: 3D movies
I saw Avatar in RealD 3D as well as IMAX 3D...hands down, the 3D IMAX experience was my favorite.
I also saw Alice in Wonderland in RealD 3D. Great movie!

Yeah, I really shoulda gone to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. There are multiple IMAX theaters here in Columbus, including one not far from me. Just never got around to it.
Re: 3D movies
So how was Avatar anyway? Is the movie really good in itself? Or was it just the 3D IMAX experience that made it good?

Re: 3D movies
My sister saw Avatar and said it was good in its own right, besides being really visually impressive in 3D. Yeah, it has the obvious environmentalism and anti-war themes and whatnot, but she said it was enjoyable regardless. That seems to be the consensus of most people who've seen it.
Re: 3D movies
The IMAX 3D experience really made the movie immersive. I saw it in regular 2D cinema before seeing it in 3D, and enjoyed the movie a great deal without the 3D effects. The plot wasn't anything brand-new, but it was an entertaining storyline nonetheless with some really good performances. At times, I nearly forgot some of the characters weren't "real". Needless to say, I will definitely be picking up the DVD tomorrow.Roemello wrote:So how was Avatar anyway? Is the movie really good in itself?
