Goodbye Sweet Prince.

Post by Masamune »

Tomorrow, our dear, sweet Sparky will meet his, "Daaaad" and other friends at the Rainbow Bridge. At 16, he lived a long and very loved life. Cancer is destroying his little insides and he is in pain. As hard as it is to say and do, it's time. He wouldn't survive any treatments and it's not fair to let him keep going like this until Nature decides to take him.

Sorry to hear this Masa I know it is a hard choice to make but you are right,he should no longer suffer, even though it is not an easy choice.

It's always rough to have to go through this. 16 is indeed a very long life for a cat, so clearly he lived a long and happy one.

Thanks guys.

My buddy is at peace now. I wrapped him up in two of Dad's shirts and buried him near his sister. The vet gave me a little cardboard casket, but I just could not dig the frozen ground big and deep enough to get it to fit. Pennsylvania's dirt is full of rocks! I think there is more rock than dirt.

I kept him on my lap for the drive. I know, I shouldn't have, but the vet isn't far. Besides, oddly enough, the roads were empty. I just didn't want him to be in a cold and lonely crate. He was his lovable, but grouchy old man self. He complained very loudly, as usual for car rides, but would stop and headbutt love my arms and stomach. He stayed curled up on my lap. At the vet's, he hid his face against me when he realized where we were and gave disapproving, "meehhs." until exhausted and in pain, he curled up and just flopped in my lap. The one nurse was pretty heartbroken as she had formed a bond with him when he was in the hospital for two weeks a couple of years ago. They loved his unusual personality that he had for a cat. I stayed until the sedation kicked in. I can never last long enough for the final shot.

Here he is facepalming the couch. He would sleep like this and we'd shush each other because, "Sparky has a headache."

I know exactly how you feel. I had to have my fuzzybutt put to sleep on 29 DEC 2010 to end her obvious suffering.

Aw, man... you made the right choice not to let the poor guy suffer any longer, but that's still one car ride I wouldn't wish on anybody. At least he lived for a pretty dang long time. Rest in peace, Sparky. :rose2:

Didn't even know you had a cat, Ken. Guess you're not having an easy time of it lately, either, then. Hope she had a good run at life before you had to let her go.
