How To Survive Zombie Apocalypse
As it’s Zombie Appreciation Month 2011 it’s time to appreciate that Zombies are a dangerous threat to our everyday lives. It pays in the dangerous world to be prepared for anything that may come your way. Times of hardship can be overcome with a survival pack but throw in a Zombie Apocalypse and things get a little tougher.
-How To Survive Zombie Apocalypse
Zombies come in many forms but generally they are a little brain dead and are either intent on eating your flesh or just violently beating your brains out. Outside of this there isn’t much going on unless you are looking at Lad of the Dead style Zombies that seem to have developed some basic thinking and sense of society. Don’t worry, I don’t think that will happen for the first few years and if you get through that you will be better equipped and surrounded by other survivors.
Knowing their objective helps you immensely. Also knowing how to immobilize them helps too, oh and how they immobilize you.
You want to try and avoid getting too close as a bite could turn you into one of them and then your best buddy may have to beat your head in. If any of their bodily fluid gets inside you you are pretty much done for.
Getting them to stop normally involves decapitation or destroying the brain, this means the head is the target. Destroying the body will stop them skulking after you but their noises and screams and desperation to still try and get you could attract more zombies so you are better off putting it out of it’s misery if it ends up like this.
Choice weapons are obviously long range items such as guns which seem to be in easier supply when Zombies turn up but bullets can run low quickly so a cross bow where you can retrieve some ammunition when the coast is clear could be a great help. Of course when retrieving arrows don’t get any zombie juice on you.
You do also need a short range weapon and a good solid metal pipe or a solid baseball or cricket bat could work. A very sharp samurai sword is good too but you could end up hurting yourself! Knifes are handy but not that effective in general, still worth keeping some around for backup.
Zombie conflict is hard work and you should work hardest to avoid contact wherever possible. Leave that to the real Zombie hunters, we are talking about survival here.
Survey your Zombies from distance and prey that they are the slow skulking type and not the ones that run like maniacs. Most Zombies seem to be a little on the slow side although they seem to be getting faster these days so be careful. Some zombies switch between running and skulking so be sure what you are up against before you go on any supply runs.
No pre-preparation is going to help you out a lot here. You need a bug bag, somewhere very secure and huge stocks of dry and long lasting foods. If you prepare really well you should be able to sit most of it out in your basement but that often ends badly so know an escape route and have backup destinations planned. Getting to less populated countryside could help (check out our list of American ‘Ghost Counties’ for ideas of places to go).
Also arranging some some apocalypse survival buddies could help for moral support and muscle. Pick people who won’t crack under the pressure and don’t feel squeamish about beating in the faces of the undead. Also pick someone with a small appetite, you don’t want them munching all the food.
Keep a low profile, have your weapons and supplies ready and watch ALL of the Best Zombie Movies and you should be well set to survive such a horrid ordeal as a Zombie Apocalypse.
Sharing is caring so please let us know what tips you have to help us all survive!
