Seven people from the bomb and 80+ at the camp.
Damn... . Why'd it have to be kids?

This guy has got to be completely nuts. He either needs to be locked away in a cell forever or shot in the head. If they ever let him back out into the public, he'll only kill more people.
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
Fortunately, I suspect we won't have to worry about someone quite this off the deep end getting out. AFAIK it's pretty open-and-shut, much like most extremist killers. Has anyone heard if anything is being arranged so far for the families or especially the parents of all those kids? Losing your children, especially at such a young age, must be one of the most devastating things there is....

Last I heard, the death toll was 92. The nutbag is looking very like a Norwegian Tim McVeigh.
Norwegian police have arrested six others in connection with this case. They're also looking for more chemicals that could be used for other bombs.

Yeah, I saw that comparison made, too. I dunno how someone becomes that nuts, but it just seems to happen sometimes. The guy attempted to claim that slaughtering dozens of kids was necessary somehow. Completely insane.KenseidenXL wrote:The nutbag is looking very like a Norwegian Tim McVeigh.

They had a Memorial Service at the Oslo Cathedral. It's pretty heart wrenching to see a King break down and cry.
Amazingly, the most this douche will serve is 21 years under Norway's current laws. There is no death penalty, BUT there is a strong chance they can keep him past the 21 if he is still proven to be a danger to society. If they do release him, I think a lynch mod will take care of him.

Aii... it seems I stand thoroughly corrected... honestly, that could use some legal reform. There are just plain some criminals that should never get out.

Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
The search for more victims continues and police have not released the names of the dead. But Norway’s royal court said Monday that those killed at the island retreat included Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s stepbrother, an off-duty police officer, who was working there as a security guard.
News Link.Dr. Colin Poole, head of surgery at Ringriket Hospital in Honefoss northwest of Oslo, told The Associated Press that the gunman used special bullets designed to disintegrate inside the body and cause maximum internal damage. Poole said surgeons treating 16 gunshot victims have recovered no full bullets.
“These bullets more or less exploded inside the body,” Poole said. “It’s caused us all kinds of extra problems in dealing with the wounds they cause, with very strange trajectories.”
Ballistics experts say “dum-dum”-style bullets also are lighter in weight and can be fired with greater accuracy over varying distances.
I wonder how many copycats this will spawn?
Found this elsewhere (closed the tab that had it, so missed the site name. So many news stories.)
Police have said a trial could be a year away. The maximum jail term in Norway is 21 years, although that can be extended if there is a risk of repeat offences. In theory he can be in jail for the rest of his life,' said professor of criminal law at the University of Oslo, Staale Eskeland.
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
This maniac's rampage really makes a case for concealed carry, IMO. If anybody onsite had been armed, they might have been able to gun the bastard down before he murdered all those kids. If nobody has guns but the crazies, though, we're all screwed. It's not like the criminals care about gun control laws, after all - they're criminals. Even if you banned guns outright, they'll just get them illegally. How many times do the innocent have to die before people realize that fighting fire with fire works?
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
Norway's police officers don't even carry. That...breaks my brain. If anyone should have a gun, it should be a cop (well, the proper, not crazy with power ones.)
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
Er... wat? How in the hell do the cops not carry guns over there? What are they supposed to do if they confront an armed criminal, try to talk the guy into giving up and going out for donuts or something? What idiocy.Masamune wrote:Norway's police officers don't even carry. That...breaks my brain. If anyone should have a gun, it should be a cop (well, the proper, not crazy with power ones.)
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
No doubt.
Also, this has gone from an act of extremism right up to terrorism. He's now threatening that there are two other cells "waiting to be activated." Using threats of violence in the hopes of getting your way? That's pretty much the definition of terrorism right there.
Oh, his demands were to stop immigration. Immigrants are supposedly ruining Europe. (But totally not nutjobs like him.) *sigh*

Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
What's particularly annoying here is that he happens to be right in one sense - mass Muslim immigration really IS ruining Europe in many places (see: Muslim radicalism in Britain, France, etc.). The problem, of course, is that the solution is not to go murdering dozens of kids at a camp and blowing up government buildings. There isn't ANYTHING for which that's the solution. All this is going to do is to give Muslim apologists and anti-religion/pro-immigration fanatics more ammo, and that's hardly what Europe needs right now. They need to work on getting immigrants to assimilate into society better, not make them feel even more unwelcome. The whole situation is just bent.
Re: Car bomb explodes outside of PM's office in Oslo, Norway.
Okay... now I've heard about the radicalism thing... but you lost me where you combined anti-religion with pro (Muslim) immigration... then following it up with not making Muslims feel unwelcome has me lost lol. Where were you going with this? Did you mean that anti-Muslim people are causing Muslim immigrants to not be able to assimilate as well and thus causing the radicalism or something?
