My New Project

Post by Shawn »

I went back to playing drums a few months ago and have been trying to get everything again. So far I have managed to get it set up pretty decent, added more to it today.

I done things a little different this time,I bought a set that I could still buy the upgrades for so everything matches and got the right kind of wood I wanted.I went with Birch instead of Maple for cost and Maple sounds to warm and not as much projection compared to Birch.
I'm far from done with this set, have about another $1000-$1500 to go,slowly but surely I will get here.
Pics below!

Nice! After viewing your
set, I'm suddenly ge-
tting the urge to
play them in a
manner tha-

am certain even
they wouldn't survi-

gratulations on your latest
acquisition, Shawn! T'was wis-

y of upgrading so as not to limit the
potential extended use of them. Thank-

Yeah Banging the hell out of them can be fun when needed to relieve stress. I have had so much of it,not sure what normal is anymore.
Thanks for the comment :)

So now you can play for a while without the pain being too much of an issue, then? That's sure as hell an improvement over the last year or two.

That's another story. I was on vicodin for a little under a year and stopped all at once back in August. The pain was very intense and I knew that the vicodin was causing more pain then I should be in,so I threw them away. Withdrawals weren't as bad as I thought considering my use. 6 weeks later,I am still in unbearable pain and nothing helped.I tried every OTC and a few prescription meds and nothing helped,so I went back on the vicodin again. My pain level is still high and warrants being on a narcotic pain med. It was the last thing I wanted to go back to but laying in bed and not being able to enjoy anything was getting old fast. I see another pain doctor on the 18th so we'll see what she has to say. Hoping she finds a problem and solution without needing meds but I am not holding my breath. I've also tried a tens unit with no success.

I play through the pain and it probably causes more pain after wards but I'm not giving up.

Well, here's hoping this new doctor can actually do the job that all the previous ones failed to do, and tell you what in the hell is still causing you all this pain. I still refuse to believe that there isn't a good reason for this. Pain is an indication that something is wrong. The doctors have got to just be missing it somehow.

I go for blood work and xrays yet again on Monday and don't have to high of hopes with this new doctor.I could barely understand her,she tried pushing drugs on me,which I explained 4 times to wait and see what the test results were before I even think about taking anything else. She then proceeded to tell me she was going to prescribe Vicodin, well she didn't read the chart,I am already taking it and told her several times it doesn't do anything for pain,I might as well eat a piece of candy and when I go to get my next appointment card, the nurse said I was already prescribed Vicodin so she wasn't going to give me any, well duh I wrote it down ad said it several times, did anyone listen? Not to keen on this Dr but I am doing the test just to see if anything changed and then dumping her. I can't go to a Dr who doesn't listen to a patient. No wonder I am still in pain no one listens.
I have been sleeping a lot this past week,The pain is so bad I just lay in bed and watch TV and dose off for a few hours and wake up in screaming pain again.I've cut my vicodon intake to 3 a day instead of 4 since it really only helps for about 2-3 hours anyways.I don't want to walk don that path again and get up to 7-8 a day every again. I've also found that if I put the headphones on and beat the drums it takes my mind off the pain while I play but the kids complain about the noise after an hour or so.
When I started with this latest Drum set back in May I had no intentions of going big with it.I was ok with the 5 Piece set that I bought but as I got to playing them more and more I wanted more and more. I bought another floor tom on Wed,still waiting on it (18" monster). I have 1 more floor tom to buy for the left side (where the high hats are) and then I am done with the toms until tax time when I go and spend $1000 on Octobans. I am not sure if I want the 4 high or 4 low so I am buying both lol. I also purchased a Drum rack to hold everything and clean up the mess of stands, made a huge difference and I will take more pictures and upload them when I get the 18" floor tom. I'll never really be done with this kit per say, there are so many things I want to buy as far as effects cymbals and little things that will add up over time but eventually I will have 1 huge setup that will last me for years. I won't be selling this set since the brand is much better then my previous 2 and everything matches as far as the drums go. On my other kits, the toms were a different brand and even different colors and this time I got something more updated so I could add on and everything match correctly. The shells are Birch wood,I could of went with Maple, but the sound was to soft for me and not enough attack compared to the Birch wood.
