It's the motherboard that contains those evil things. Anyone who builds computers can use them. So you have a choice if you build them yourself. But if you buy a computer, that's less likely to get a normal board.

They suck.

I figured they do that so when something gets fried you are faced with two choices...replacing the motherboard which is almost as much $$$ as buying a new computer....or getting a new computer. Not much choice there...eh? <

I hate integrated cards on my motherboard, that's why I build my pc myself. I really hate those pre build pc's, you never know what kind of stuff is in there. <

>And a motherboard is expensive but it isn't that expensive though. You can easily replace it if your pc is still fast enough. If you have an older pc I would buy a new one.

But see..prices for new computers drop faster than the prices you pay for parts, so...you always end up being better off getting a new one...less bother and a small difference between the two. Besides...if you do have an extra HD in the old computer you can always install it in the new one...same with extra RAM and the like.<

>One of our computers got fried no long ago and we checked prices for motherboards...and there was only a difference of $150 between replacing the motherboard and buying a new one. Not worth the bother IMO. I guess it all depends on what's too much $$$ for you. That's just my own view.

I don't see why there is such a small difference. A new computer costs way more then just a motherboard. When I bought my pc the motherboard was about 17,5 % of the total price.
