Would You Implant a GPS Chip in Your Child?

The other day someone was all down in the mouth about the lack of privacy & the erosion of rights, etc.

She said that she feels like the day is coming when every newborn has a chip implanted.

For the rest of that child's life, all his/her information would be available to whatever person or agency has the right tool for reading it.

That, the story about the girl in Austria who was held captive for over 8 years and the Elizabeth Smart case got me thinking about this.

I think it'd be particularly useful on patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

Would you consider microchipping your child?

Not sure if I would or not, depends on certain things, and there is other reasons, but I wont go into that here lol

I would never subject my kids to something like that.I would however consider a neaklace or bracelt of some type that can be removed when my kids reach legal adult age.

Just to add.I am surprised no one has came up with a way to make the GPS for parents to keep track f their kids when away from them in case something does happen. With all teh sick bastards in this world who would go as far as hurting an innocent child.
Plus think of all the money that could be made if someone would make it and could be used with a computer to see exactly where a child if down to the exact location.

I agree, I think a bracelet or something would be more appropriate, something that could be removed, but not something detectable to a kidnapper.

But either way I couldn't do it...especially the chip, it's just wrong if you ask me...the idea is right, but there has to be another method, one that isn't quite as intrusive on someone's privacy. A child, however defenseless they might be is still a human being and deserves certain respect.

Hell no! When He/she is old enough, he/she can get one installed.

Let's just say religious reasons

Why not implanting a navigation system while being at it...

Not only for the reason that even an implanted GPS chip won't prevent child abducting...I shudder at the thought of what might happen if the kidnapper finds out about the chip and wants to get rid of the device, without being known in surgery.

Very good point, Wave! I could see that as happening too. Yikes!

I think my main argument against it would be the child's rights, unless it was somehow easily removable. It doesn't seem like something that should be forcibly decided for them.

Yeah, I had thought of this as well. ick.

There are some people who believe that these chips can be linked to the mark of the beast mentioned in the Bible.

Since it is supposed to be put on the forehead or wrist (top of the hand, actually), which is where they want to put these chips also...and it also says in the Bible that people can be tracked by these marks, wherever they are etc. so I believe that is why some people are concerned about this.

But mainly I'm concerned about the lack or privacy...we've already got tracking devices in new cars and in merchandise...what next?

Nothing should be implanted in any kids. Sounds all too weird and just plain wrong

I agree. I think something that can be worn like a necklace/bracelet would be a better idea.
