SOLOIST'S MINI-REVIEW OF HULK: UD (PS2)!

The BEST Hulk game ever created with relation<
>to the comic-book version of the character<
>and one of the best comic-book game-<
>s in terms of fun-factor, challeng-<
>e and enjoyable gameplay as<
>well as accuracy in term-<
>s of the actual char-<
>acter. My reas-<
>ons are po-<
>sted be-<

>Visuals- <
>Not as impressive as the original Spiderman game and on par with those of Spiderman 2... but considering the gameplay style (GTA inspired)... this I expected. Explosions are weak visually... but the effects of such instances and the physics employed are impressive. Tear up a few vehicles on one block, travel about 3 blocks away and return only to see the same devastation. Overall, while not great, the visuals fits the game and the characters, though the backgrounds could have used more work...<

>Sound-<
>While playing this game, I could have sworn police cars were just outside of my home! Really! Though I am not certain if it is because my television is equipped with a 5.1 surround sound setting which is on by default and whether or not this game utilized this feature... but the yells of the pedestrians, the crashes of the devastation and the grunts of the Hulk all sounded as if they were clear enough to be just outside of my house. Overall, the audio is as should be expected with explosions, radio traffic and various damaging sound effects being standard... but produced well (at least on my television).<

>Control-<
>Novices beware! I played this game on the "Normal" difficulty setting, and the controls took some time to get used to in the heat of action, only because there are plenty of actions for the player to become familiar with... but there are tutorials for many of the more advanced actions. And though they are not too much of a challenge to learn, many involve holding down buttons to "charge" the moves, making them more damaging. One button charges are not problems, however, when trying to simultaneously press two buttons and dogding or avoiding attacks will cause gamers to either invest in additional controllers from pressing buttons too hard or have them soaking their fingers in hot water from well-earned blisters (laughs). Not really a challenge to perform, just a challenge to perform while fighting multiple enemies and monitor ones health.<

>The Verdict-<
>Fans of the Hulk will enjoy this game and the extra since a nice portion of them relate to the comic books. It took me about 6 days to complete, but only because I did not play it much... but the game can probably be beaten in about 8 or 10 intense hours if the gamer hurries to complete the story without performing the min-games; however the mini-games offer Hulk-points which can be used in the main game to purchase some of Hulks more powerful moves, and since these moves cost quite a bit of points, gamers will have to play the mini-games regardless. Either that or produce as much havok as one could before attempting a mission. With over 25 mini-games to unlock patterned after golf, baseball, soccer and many other activities, Hulk fans will be pleased to invest in this game. Those who are not fans may not be too thrilled.<

>(PS: sorry, I had little time to include all I wished to...)<
