Digital Camera Advice

Post by angel »

I know some of you have and use Digital Cameras...

I am looking to get one soon, but I don't really want to spend a lot... it isn't something I will be using all the time... But I want it to work when I want it too lol

Any advice?

Best Buy has this...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 2881360027

CompUSA has this...

http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... Megapixels

This is the price I am looking at (or thereabouts)

Advice appreciated :)

If you are buying online I suggest this one from Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830179105

It is 7MP so you woul dget better pictures fo about the same price as the 2nd camera. You would have to buy a memory stick, which really isn't to expensive for a 1gb and battery and charger for it but the extra 2 MPs is worth it.

Edit here is the link for the Memory card you could use.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820234006

And batteries

Hey, Ang, I think this is the camera my Mom has. She has two Nikons, I'm not sure what make they are, but this one looks familiar. She has one that's just a "point and shoot" kind and one which is more elaborate. She told me she was actually going to give me the "point and shoot" one when she finds a better one. I'll have to ask her what she has.

I personally like my HP Photosmart M527 6.0. Megapixels.

Black Friday sale FTW!

Not necessary...the number of pixels doesn't determine if the cam is making good pics or not; the hardware before and behind the CCD counts as well. Many of those compact cams with high megapixels do have difficulties with noise when the setting is on higher film speeds (above 400 ASA) which could be problematic if you want to take pics in darker environments (e.g. shots under candlelight conditions) - here, cameras with less MP do have less problems with noise.
And if you want to make large printouts of your pics, it's better to save a few months longer and get a digital SLR for better picture quality.

So, bigger isn't always better...if you are happy with the occasional snap shots and have no intentions to go into professional photography, you might as well buy a cam with less MP and invest the saved money into other items like a good cam case or a memory card with higher capacity.

Just save money for a Sony H9 lol
You will not be sorry.I along with Ingrind and Roem have H5s which is the modle before the H9...The H5s take some awesome shots, but in the dark I do struggle with it.But I am sure that is user error.

For some reason the links don't work for me. I did see Nikon mentioned. I am a big fan of Nikon. I have a Nikon D40. I also like the Sony Cybershot. My wife has an older one that does great job.

First DSLR was a Canon EOS 10D. Now have a Digital Rebel XTI. You can't beat the optics of the SLRs.

The point and shoot is ok for carrying in the car in case there's a wreck or quick casual pictures, but I have been spoiled by SLR cameras forever.

You need a tripod and the right setting, Shawn. Shots in the dark without a tripod yield blurry pictures for all cameras. ;)

I didn't have a problem with blurriness,Steadyshit came in handy for that. But the pictures came out to dark.

Did Angel purchase a camera yet?

I got the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS (black):

Here's a picture of my laptop taken with my new camera:

I started a topic in the Our Daily Chat forum with other pictures, including links to larger versions of those pictures. This is one nice camera. Highly recommended. Only thing that was kind of off is the 4 second delay between shots using the flash and full size settings.
