Microsoft kills Explorer 8 to work on Firefox 3
Microsoft kills Explorer 8 to work on Firefox 3

It's official! Firefox has officially killed Internet Explorer (hence the RIP icon)! Starting with Windows 7 & Windows Vista SP2, Firefox 3 will be included as the official browser for Windows.
This news even shocked the Mozilla Foundation (the makers of Firefox, Thunderbird & Seamonkey), but are welcoming the extra developing power that Microsoft brings. However, they don't want the developers of IE 6 due to risks of setting back Firefox decades.
What does this mean to everybody?
Those who are using Firefox or SeaMonkey (Firefox's & Thunderbird's big-ass cousin) will be pleased that sites which aren't "Firefox Friendly" (like Microsoft's website & parts of Yahoo! Music's website to name a few) will have to work on becoming "Firefox Friendly" or suffer a drop in traffic as well as floods from angry users.
Those who are using Internet Explorer, you'll eventually have to change over to Firefox / Seamonkey or another browser (Opera or Safari). If you're a Vista User, this will be done automatically when Service Pack 2 gets released as it will remove Internet Explorer 7 & install Firefox 3 in it's place.
Those who aren't using Windows at all won't probably see any major changes immediately, but will probably be able to visit a few more sites once they become "Firefox Friendly".

Uh oh... God knows what'll happen once Microcrap starts fooking with the Firefox code - they'll turn it into Intarfox Exploder.
I'd rather they keep their hands off it, honestly.
Update: I haven't seen anything else about this mentioned. You sure this isn't a hoax?

Frong, did you check the site? Just read the article and it quickly becomes apparent.
Very amusing.
Although, it's not like MS profits off of IE7. There's really no cause for them not to bundle FireFox into Windows, if we consider the possibility of it ever happening.
Very amusing.

I glanced for about two seconds at the site, just for the hell of it, but I was also watching TV at the time and wasn't paying attention. I think I only got about as far as Steve Ballmer's name and didn't bother to read the rest. That's what happens when the Magical Tube o' Entertainment eats all your attention - you don't enough left for random parodies.

With Internet Explorer leaving the browser wars... we're down to Firefox / Seamonkey, Opera & Safari.
However, with Safari's security issues (Pay Pal has addressed SSL issues, Microsoft has addressed other issues) will likely stunt it's userbase.

I was just about to post a thread here something similar to this! I downloaded IE8 last weekend and I have had nothing but problems when I did Firefox 3 it works like a charm. IE8 doesn't load right away, pop ups for Flash player don't load at all and I am always getting "an error occurred IE needs to shutdown. I think I am going to remove IE totally!

All you have to do is install and run Norton. Apparently its preinstall scan will pick up IE as a virus and remove it from the system. >_> (Yeah, that happened to us a couple days back.)Kevinator wrote:I was just about to post a thread here something similar to this! Well, I like Firefox, so i'll be OK either way.
Re: Microsoft kills Explorer 8 to work on Firefox 3
Yeah, it wiped out iexplore.exe. Left a smattering of the Internet Explorer folder behind in Program Files. Luckily we were in remote control of the customer's machine. So we just file transferred over the IE7 installer from our system and used that. ~_~Frong wrote:Are you serious? That's hilarious.Nakor wrote:All you have to do is install and run Norton. I upgraded tonight... looks pretty good so far! Though I just use it for it's speed and tabs, didn't have to deal with add on problems and such
