What's in a Dream?
Yes, Greek mythology even explains how we have dreams. It's an interesting little myth if
anything.
It all begins with Hypnos, the god of sleep and son of Erebus and Nyx. His four sons, the
Oneiroi, control everything in our dreams. His sons of course are Morpheus, Icelus,
Phobetor, and Phantasos. Below is a description of each.
-
Morpheus - Morpheus is the primary god of dreams. He is the one who shapes your dreams
and the inhabitants within them.
-
Icelus - Icelus is the one who shapes humans in your dreams.
-
Phobetor - Phobetor is the one who shapes animals in your dreams. Usually frightening ones
(from his name, we get the term "phobia" meaning fear).
-
Phantasos - Phantasos is the one who creates dead, lifeless, and/or inanimate things in your
dreams. It's from his name we get the word "Phantom" from, meaning apparition.
