Tanthalasis, as a computer programmer of 20+ years experience, I can assure you that the ability to use a DVD-type disc to store a video game is a hell of big difference from being able to play a DVD movie as they require two completely different operating systems and codec packs. The addition of DVD movie playback actually adds 3 chips to the motherboard and several MBs of codecs needed for MPEG1, MPEG2, and MPEG4 video playback. Game Cube uses DVD discs to store game code, even if they are 3" [1.87 GB], but Nintendo saw no need to add DVD movie capacity and I fully agree. Besides, my JVC XV-FA900 does a 10 times better job playing DVD movies than a PS2 or X-Box could and it cost me less than either.<
>Having more doesn't make PS2 or X-Box better, just needlessly more expensive to make. If either system did NOT have DVD movie capablility, the consoles would cost about $50 LESS to make.<
>Besides, older system with CD music playback required NO extra hardware or even software as the videogames used the same types of .cda audio files to store music and voice. Since .cda is the CD standard audio file format, it was already included. Music and movies use completely different formats. Video game code is usually very similar to that used in your PC, but DVD movie code isn't. DVD-ROM drives have special hardware and software to allow movies to run on your PC. Truth is, they don't run as well as they would on your TV though. In the end, there can be only ONE!For true Dragonball fans, click the banner.(\__/)(=';'=)(")_(")Pat the Bunny!Only the

Again, you really havn't made anything remotely close to what could be considered an arguement... for little over double the price of your $75 DVD player, you could have a DVD player and a game system? I fail to see how there is any downside to this. <

I have viewed movies on PS2 and X-Box. The playback doesn't even compare to some of the cheapest [under $5 DVD players I've seen. It was a bad idea to begin with. In the end, there can be only ONE!For true Dragonball fans, click the banner.(\__/)(=';'=)(")_(")Pat the Bunny!Only the

To you it may not be a downside Tanis, but what if you only buy the console to play games? Then you are paying extra for something you don't really need. <i></i>

I probably wouldn't care. I would just as soon buy a PS2 now, even though I already have a DVD player, as quickly as I would have before I had a DVD player. <

You should get the PSP then Soloist. You can watch movies on them too. I don't know when it hits the stores though. <i></i>

After the price tag Sony announced on that thing!? Ugh. Unless it's been dropped.<
><
>Anyway, I would rather go with an actual portable DVD player, since you could get a larger screen for it. Watching movies on a tiny screen makes it hardly worth it. <i>There are many rules of<

I'm not sure. I'm referring to way back when it was first heard of. <i>There are many rules of<
